What to Expect

We understand that while researching our California treatment center, you may have several questions. This page serves as a resource for those seeking to learn more about what to expect in addiction treatment.

Congratulations! You are at the beginning of an exciting journey to health and healing. As the team at Hemet Valley Recovery Center and Sage Retreat prepares for your arrival, we know that you may have some questions about treatment. We’ve put together a guide for what to expect when you go to rehab. We’ve also included helpful information for family members who may want to understand the treatment process on a deeper level.

If you have any questions not answered here, please contact our admissions team.

What Should I Bring?

For information on what to bring (and what not to bring), please refer to our packing list. This document will outline everything from the types of attire you should pack to which items are not permitted at HVRC. If you are unsure about an item, please give us a call before arriving.

The Check-In Process

During your first day, our staff will get to know you. Once you arrive at HVRC, we’ll speak to you about any medical problems, areas of concern, or special needs that you have. Our clinicians will also administer some assessments; these will enable us to provide care tailored to your unique needs.

Detox and Meetings

During the first phase of treatment, medical detoxification, groups and meetings are not mandatory. However, we encourage you to participate in them. You can also expect to meet with one of our medical doctors (addictionologists) every day as we focus on your health status.

What Happens After Detox?

Once you have completed medical detoxification, rehabilitation can begin. HVRC provides primary and extended care for patients in stays ranging from 30 to 90 days. Additionally, outpatient and residential stays are available. Whichever treatment approach you choose, you can rest assured that you will continue to make progress and develop a solid recovery foundation during its course.

What is a Typical Day in Rehab Like?

Our program schedule is specially designed to jump-start recovery. Visit our Weekly Schedule page for information about which meetings, therapies, and activities you can expect during your stay at HVRC.

What is the Facility Like?

HVRC is a modern, single-story building with semi-private rooms. As a part of the Hemet Valley Recovery Center hospital, our rooms also have incredible amenities like hospital beds, nurse call systems, and privacy curtains. We have designed the unit so that meeting rooms, staff offices, and other important spaces are all within the same area. Sage Retreat, our residential unit, is adjacent and equipped for longer stays.

Visiting is restricted based upon regulatory guidance. Please contact the facility for the current visiting policy.

Family members are also encouraged to participate in Family Week.
