Once you’ve decided to enter residential rehab, you may feel uncertain about what to expect – especially if this is your first time seeking professional drug and alcohol treatment.
Hemet Valley Recovery Center & Sage Retreat provides accredited, hospital-based care in a home-like setting. We aim to make the transition into care as smooth and supportive as possible. Knowing how to prepare can ease your anxiety and free your mind to focus on restoring your well-being.
Packing Is the Foundation for Your Treatment
Packing for rehab shouldn’t feel overwhelming. Keep it simple and choose items that will help you feel comfortable and supported during your stay. We recommend bringing:
- Comfortable, casual clothes
- Your usual toiletries
- At least a 30-day supply of your current, non-narcotic prescription medications in their original bottles
- Photo ID and insurance card
- Spending money for small personal needs
- Your favorite pillow or blanket (optional)
- The AA Big Book and other recovery materials (optional)
What Not to Bring
To ensure a safe, substance-free environment for all clients, we do not allow these items:
- Products containing alcohol (mouthwash, perfume, cologne, hand sanitizer, certain cold medicines)
- Clothing or materials depicting drugs, alcohol, sex or violence
- Hats
- Weapons, drugs or alcohol
- Cameras
When you arrive, our staff will conduct a discreet luggage search and safely remove prohibited items.
What Happens on Your First Day?
The goal of your first day is to settle in with care tailored to your needs. You’ll meet with our clinical and medical staff so they can review your medical history, current concerns and special needs. You’ll also need to complete assessments to help us develop a personalized treatment plan.
Please stop at the front desk before using the restroom so you can pick up the supplies you need to complete a urine screening.
The Detox Phase
Many of our clients start treatment with medically supervised detoxification. As a hospital-based facility, HVRC provides:
- 24/7 monitoring by licensed professionals
- Daily visits with a qualified physician
- Care for withdrawal symptoms and co-occurring medical conditions
Stabilization is your primary focus during this phase, so group therapy and other activities are not mandatory during detox. Your comfort and safety come first.
What Happens After Detox?
Once you complete detox, you’ll transition into the rehabilitation phase of your stay. Our facility offers primary and extended residential care, typically ranging from 30 to 90 days.
During this time, you’ll work closely with our clinicians to learn relapse prevention strategies, address underlying emotional and behavioral patterns and build a sustainable foundation for your long-term recovery.
What Our Facility Is Like
Hemet Valley Recovery Center is a modern, hospital-based facility designed to support your medical and emotional healing. Our clients stay in semi-private rooms equipped with hospital beds, nurse call systems and privacy curtains.
Our layout makes treatment spaces, meeting rooms and clinical staff readily accessible. Sage Retreat, our adjacent residential unit, provides a comfortable environment for longer-term care.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
Structure is a pivotal component of recovery. We design our weekly schedule to promote stability, engagement and progress. Your average day will include:
- Individual and group therapy
- Educational workshops
- 12-step recovery meetings
- Wellness activities
- Nutritious meals
- Time for rest and reflection
This routine will help you establish healthy habits that support long-term success.
Preparing Mentally and Emotionally
Packing your bag is only one part of preparing for rehab. It’s equally essential to get into the appropriate mindset before you arrive.
Try to:
- Approach treatment with an open mind
- Let go of the need for control or perfection
- Remind yourself that recovery is a process, not an instant fix
- Focus on improving one day at a time
